New shipments

Recently we have been unpacking two sea containers in an excited frenzy!

The first one was  from Bali ,The Merchant has been frequenting Bali since 1974 when Kuta was quite different :just coconut palms, a few sandy trails and very basic accommodation lit up at night by kerosene lamps. Nowadays it's gridlocked on a daily basis and every other day there seems to be another hotel going up. Their craftsmanship however is unchanged and as innovative as ever. In this latest shipment we received a new batch of very stylish tamarind tables also lots of rustic stools, granite sinks, bowls and granite lamps in a variety of sizes.

A large quantity of  the classic Balinese wind chimes made by  our friend Wayan and his family from Ubud who are musicians in their local gamelan orchestra. Each wind chime is tuned in the pentatonic scale and each bamboo tube in tuned by hand using traditional tools . As  a result these are  the best bamboo chimes available!! There were also some professional Balinese black  bamboo xylophones in this shipment.

Also came across beautiful oil paintings that have been selling very fast, wood and glass sculptures and lots of other goodies.

The second container came from Thailand. Sadly Thailand is not thriving. It seems civil unrest and the military coup has affected tourism and business confidence. Nevertheless lots of exciting products have come the Merchant's way, including some very interesting clay sculptures from an artist called Deng from Chiang Mai. The popular twisted monkey pod wood stools are back in three sizes and different shapes. There is a range of interesting rustic furniture, ceramic wind chimes, and some fantastic giant antique looking pots. Unfortunately we have however run out of floor space! So the pots are in our storage area, and when you visit you can ask one of us to direct you. There are numerous other items, so please come and have a look. There is something for everyone!
